Tobermory- Ontario

Updated: Sep 16, 2019

The Tobermory Harbour, also known as Little Tub Harbour was our first stop of the day (after coffee of course). It is a picture perfect family destination for all ages. One thing I will warn you in advance it’s not wheelchair accessible at many points including the boardwalk and many stores/restaurants. So if you’re bringing your little one and umbrella stroller would be a good call.

This is perhaps the prettiest harbour in southern Ontario. It is full of boats of all types, sailboats, tour boats, fishing boats, coast guard, and in the home port of the Chi-cheemaun ferry. The harbour is surrounded by shops and restaurants and there is a convenient boardwalk. Most of the accommodations/attractions in Tobermory are walking distance from the harbour. There is ample parking for a fee of $3/h or $15 for the day.

We decided to check out all the local shops on the strip before heading to lunch at the legendary “Fish and Chips” place. The shops were just like any other tourist destination shop full of souvenirs that boasted the location and a few other cottage/ lighthouse decor.

Couldn't leave the area without trying the local white fish. This resturant had great service and the perfect mix of enjoying the outside but still sitting indoors out of the afternoon sun perfect when traveling with a baby. The fish tacos were amazing and a must try!

We next ventured off to the boardwalk to enjoy a nice scenic view and of course snap some pictures.

We then loaded everyone back up into the car and headed 10k more north to big tub lighthouse. There was many people in the water at this spot enjoying a quick deep in the crystal clear waters. As well as many other kayaking, canoeing and snorkelling. A truly beautiful scenery and amazing photo op spot. The little boardwalk from the parking takes you right up to the lighthouse. You would have to take your wee one out of the stroller to get some good pictures however. A great spot to watch the sunset!

Our day in tobermory was great, however if you plan on going to visit I recommend staying the night so you can get more of the attractions in, such as a ride on the chichimon to Manitoulin Island, glass bottom boat tours that go across several shipwrecks, the grotto, and flower pot island. Defiantly a multi day town! Non the less we had an amazing mini getaway with good food, great company and a better view.
