Our August Long Weekend

50s first Friday’s- Owen Sound

A large selection of vintage vehicles were lined up and down Second Avenue East from 8th Street to 11th Street Owen Sound plus there was fun fifties music, fun foods, local downtown businesses open late (many with great sales happening), people dressed in 50’s fashion and so much more!

Story Book Park - Meaford

Live animals (some you can even hand feed), rides, waterslides and a splash pad all in one place. Everything is included in your admission price. Bring your own picnic or buy a lunch at the restaurant (affordable too.)

Lots to keep the kids busy and plenty of places for the grown ups to sit and watch the fun. They even have a train that goes through the park every half hour which you can take a stroller on.

Hibou Conversation Area

Hibou Conservation Area is a great family spot complete with a sand beach, pavilions, washrooms (not port-a-pottys) and 2.5 km of hiking trails.   Hibou is 108 hectare day-use facility overlooking the waters of Georgian Bay.

Parking Fee can be paid using your cell phone at Hibou or pay from home before you go for $6

Village Festival

Midway rides, games, a baseball tournament, food booths with a wide selection of items (i.e. Grilled Corn-on-the-Cob, Bluewater Poutine,"Triple B" (Back Bacon-on-a-Bun), Lotteries including Crown & Anchor and Bruce Peninsula Hospital Foundation's "Live Your Dream Lottery", and bingo nightly.

Wiarton Fireworks

Just set up your lawn chair at the Blue Water Park boardwalk and enjoy the beautiful sunset as you wait for the amazing firework display. (They do it every July and August long weekend) a summer must do!

Candy Store - Northern Confections

If you’re in the wiarton area i highly recommend stopping at Northern Confections for their amazing fudge! I've never liked fudge despite the many times I have tried it elsewhere, however Northern Confections has changed my mind! The owners, Todd and Heather, are exceptionally friendly, and also explained that they still make fudge using the traditional process which is why theirs stands out from the rest. We also picked up chocolate covered pretzels, bacon butter-tarts and caramel corn-all of which is homemade. If you have a chance to stop by, be sure to do so!

Red Bay Cottage

A cottage holiday for me is about reconnecting. Today’s hectic lifestyle with the multitude of activities and responsibilities that we stickhandle from day to day take their toll on our health and our relationships with family and friends. Long hours at work, ferrying the kids to and from various activities leaves all of us with little time for the family to be together as a family. It becomes a juggling act every day to make sure that everything that needs to be done is completed, very often at the expense of quality family time and personal health. It’s always nice to enjoy a day on the water with a nice pontoon boat ride, seadoo tube rides, boat side bbq, lots of swimming and great conversation with family and friends to leave you feeling refreshed.
